Exterior Water Application - To Apply or Not To Apply, That is the Question!

There has always been a lot of debate concerning firefighting procedures and tactics, and even though NIST and UL have been conducting experiments to challenge these debates, there are still a lot of questions. The science does not lie, however there are still many factors that go into the decisions we make. For example, we learned for years to attack fires from the uninvolved to the involved, and now we are learning that it is ok to hit the fire from the outside. Neither of these tactics are necessarily right or wrong, but they must be done correctly. We hear the term "transitional" a lot now, however we may not always use this term correctly. Just because we hit the fire from the outside does not mean that it is a defensive attack, this can also be an offensive attack, which would mean that it is not necessarily a transitional attack. With all that being said, I want to focus on performing these tactics correctly instead of defining them. The following video discusses these tactics and explains how performing them correctly can help us become safer more efficient, based on the scientific evidence. Then we can make smarter and more informed decisions.
