Mastering fire ground command is not an end goal, it is an ongoing process that continues throughout your career. Your experience alone is just not enough to prepare you for the responsibility and the many dynamics you will face at a fire scene. It takes an inherent knowledge of the Incident Command System, response capabilities and guidelines, and strategies and tactics; just to name a few.
